description

This sculpture is located directly above one of Perth’s many underground ‘laids’ or tributaries that serve the River Tay. Spiral Vortex symbolises the movements, eddies & patterns that can be found at a nearby water mill,

Created to be an integral component of a toddlers play area 'Snake'
was installed as part of a Civic centre refurbishment programme.
Local children participated in a competition to design the snake's body.

Designed & built in conjunction with civil engineers & contractors on site, the underpass was constructed using moulds prepared in my studio. The underpass is intended to resemble a subterranean cave with cliff like walls on either side of the road. As peoplewalk through the tunnel they can see remains of ‘fossils’ which are carved into the walls. In order to give the underpass it’s own unique identity, a local poet was commissioned to write poem based on the town’s motto. The verses were carved into the moulds prior to casting.
