BACKGROUND

Robertson graduated in Sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art in 1974, and was awarded his teaching diploma by Jordanhill College of Education in 1975.

He then worked for 3 years as an Art Teacher in rural Argyll.

Between the years of 1978 - 1990 he became known internationally for his work as Town Artist in the thriving Scottish New Town of Glenrothes, where he worked as a full time member of the City Corporation’s multi disciplinary Architecture and Planning Department, designing and producing site-specific sculpture, artworks and murals within a social and environmental context as an integral component of the city’s master plan.

He also ran art festivals, youth training schemes and graduate apprenticeships.

Malcolm established his own professional practice in 1991, and has successfully managed to create an extensive and eclectic portfolio of site specific sculpture and artworks in a wide variety of materials in the UK, Germany, India and the USA.

By working in partnership with fellow design professionals and local communities, he meets artistic challenges with inspiring and memorable solutions and adopts a 'hands on approach' whenever possible.

Malcolm who works to commission is now based in Scotland having been a part time Sarasota resident in Florida for 16 years, where he exhibited and created a wide variety of public artworks throughout the sunshine state.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
